SunTechnics Sees Potential for Korea to Lead the Renewable Energy Industry in Asia

· Alternative Energy Korea 2007 attended by over one hundred international and Korean renewable industry leaders and thinkers

· SunTechnics updates delegates on the construction of Asia’s largest solar power plant in Korea

Seoul, 8 November 2007: Over one hundred international and Korean leaders and thinkers from the renewable energy sector converged in Seoul, Korea to attend the Alternative Energy Korea 2007 conference, and debate the future of the industry in Korea. The event was sponsored by SunTechnics (www.suntechnics.com), the world’s most experienced full-service provider of renewable energy solutions.

The renewable energy market is expected to grow to over KRW 275,000 billion (US$300 billion) by 2015 and analysts are predicting that the market in Korea could grow to 375 MW by 2011, 15 times larger than the country’s renewable energy output in 2006. Delegates also considered the opportunity for Korea to model itself on Germany’s success. In that country the renewable energy industry created over 214,000 jobs both directly and throughout the supply chain.

Speaking at the conference, SunTechnics Asia-Pacific Managing Director Stefan Muller said, “Investment in renewable energy follows the same basic rules as any other investment – clear, consistent and simple regulations are the foundation for long-term success.Korea has the potential to lead the renewable energy industry in Asia, building on the success of its feed-in tariff policies and showcasing landmark international projects such as the SinAn plant in South Jeolla.”

Since May 2007, SunTechnics, in partnership with Dongyang Engineering & Construction Corporation, has been constructing what will be Asia’s largest solar energy plant in SinAn, South Jeolla. The KRW117 billion, 18MWproject is a flagship renewable energy project for Korea and Asia, drawing upon both Korean and international expertise.

Jihun Kim, CEO, SunTechnics Korea, who opened Alternative Energy Korea 2007 added, “Outside of the obvious benefits of helping Korea meet its obligations as a signatory of the Kyoto Protocol, the development of a sustainable and vibrant renewable energy industry will create many more advantages for the country. International companies like SunTechnics, with experience in large-scale solar power projects, are working in close partnership with Korean companies and with the Government to help develop renewable energy projects that benefit an entire ecosystem of supporting companies from project owners, component suppliers and manufacturers, investors and banks.”

Alternative Energy Korea 2007 is taking place at the Renaissance Hotel, Seoul between the 8th and 9th of November. The conference, organized by marcus evans, is focusing on strategies for investing, implementing and commercializing Korea’s renewable energy potential.
