BIPV is a custom PV installation where the solar generator is merged into the facade of the building or onto the roof. The system functions in the same manner as a regular PV generator, with the exception that the modules serve as both PV generator and surface building material.
Depending on aesthetic requirements to enhance building architecture, BIPV solar cells are designed to be either translucent or semi-translucent. The latter allows natural lighting to enter the building interior through spaces between and through cells. BIPV not only adds an interesting design element to building architecture, it is also a stylish marketing tool that effectively conveys a company’s environmental stance and support towards the use of clean energy.
